The intern director will send a confirmation email upon receipt of application materials. Interview Candidates will be contacted by email one to three weeks after the application deadline. No phone calls please. Those interested in applying after the deadline should send an email to the program director at internship@chfestival.org.

Internship Concentrations

CHF internships are project-based and vary based on the program cycle and needs of the organization. While all intern projects involve inter-departmental collaboration, each intern project has a specific concentration as outlined below. Not all project concentrations will be available during every internship term.

Marketing (Design)

The Design Intern’s primary responsibility will be the design and production of the 2010 Chicago Humanities Festival program guide, which is the main piece of marketing material for the annual fall Festival. This position requires a commitment of 32 hours per week, with some overtime required in the course of the project, to produce the annual program guide. The annual program guide is distributed to 45,000 households in the Chicagoland area and, additionally, is distributed by nearly two dozen marketing and presenting partners of the festival. The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of and skills in Adobe Create Suite 3 (CS3), especially InDesign, and the ability to and experience in preparing a package for submission to a printer. A stipend may be available.

Please note: the timeframe for this internship is June 1 – August 15, 2009

Program/Production

Program/production interns support the creation and realization of public programs within a nonprofit cultural institution.  Projects may include participating in program research for fall Festival, Stages, Sights & Sounds, and education programs; researching biographical information and contact information for potential presenters; maintaining detailed records of and communicating with artists, presenters, partners, venues, vendors, and the like; determining technical requirements; confirming and augmenting requirements as needed; providing logistical support at programs, administrative tasks including database maintenance, filing, and mailings; and participating in weekly Program meetings. 

Education

Education interns support the creation of educational resources for year-round and Festival programs. Projects may include: reviewing and developing educational resource materials (study guides and lesson plans) for archival Festival programs; designing and editing educational resource materials; assisting with program development and marketing for education programs, including, but not limited to the Summer Institute for Teachers, the Fall Festival, and Classics in Context; providing administrative support for the education department’s teacher professional development, as well as student programs; participating in weekly program meetings.

Web Content

Web Content interns work on the Festival’s comprehensive new archival website. Projects may include creating multimedia content from video and/or audio captured from past Festival programs, entering and maintaining current web content, and developing ideas for high-quality content and making content requests of presenters for the upcoming 2010 Festival.
