On Haiti

Paul Farmer & Partners in Health, Edwidge Danticat, and Jeffrey Sachs

The unfolding tragedy of the Haitian Earthquake starkly illustrates the dire and precarious nature of life in the developing world. We've chosen three festival programs which we believe will add depth and richness to your understanding of this terrible and important catastrophe:

Dr. Paul Farmer, founder of Partners in Health, speaks about his lifelong work in bringing first world quality health care to Haiti and the developing world.

Hatian Novelist Edwidge Danticat discusses growing up in Port Au Prince as chronicled in her extraordinary memoir, Brother, I'm Dying, and her many works of fiction.

In the second part of his lecture, entitled "The Earth Institute and the Four Bubbles," developmental economist Jeffrey Sachs lays out the interelationship between poverty, environmental degredation, infrastructure, public health, and demography which lie at the heart of the tragedy in Haiti.
