Peer behind the scenes with two Hollywood veterans to hear how music influences the narrative and emotional arcs of a film. Nicholas Meyer, best-known for directing two Star Trek movies, including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, joins Emmy-nominated composer and orchestrator Adam Cohen (whose credits include the TV series Psych and the upcoming Sony/ Aardman film Arthur Christmas) to discuss how sound, lighting, and other audio and visual technologies influence a film’s ultimate impact on the viewer. Clips from the Star Trek movies and other films will demonstrate how new technologies provide directors, and the sound and visual-effects artists who work with them, unprecedented tools to create a more compelling movie-going experience. David Stull, dean of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, moderates the discussion.

This program is presented in partnership with Oberlin College.

The 2011 programs at the UIC Forum are sponsored in part by the Chicago Community Trust.

Partnership support is also provided by the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival.
