The Turquoise Ledge, Leslie Marmon Silko’s first new book in 10 years, blends memoir, family history, and reflections on the natural world and its occupants. Taking readers along on her daily walks through the arroyos and ledges of Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, Silko weaves tales from her past with observations from the present, uniting strands of stories in a style strongly influenced by Native American storytelling. The Turquoise Ledge offers a moving and deeply personal contemplation of the enormous spiritual power of the natural world—of what its creatures and landscapes can communicate to us, and how they are all linked. Silko is a MacArthur “Genius Award” winner and author of the acclaimed novel Ceremony. Victoria Lautman, longtime Chicago radio host and formerly of WFMT’s Writers on the Record, interviews Silko.
