Before there was the movie with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, there was Chuck Palahniuk’s explosive novel. Professor Hugh Ingrasci of DePaul University will lead participants through the unsettling world of Fight Club – if you’re ready for it! – in this Books Unbound session.

Fight Club features an anonymous, unreliable narrator who drifts through the world fighting ennui and insomnia. He starts crashing support group sessions for those with cancer and other ailments, where he meets Marla. These two characters then become entangled in the life of Tyler Durden, a nihilistic man who operates top-secret fight clubs in the basements of bars. In this shadowy underground world, businessmen and professionals vent their anger, frustration, and stress in merciless bouts of violence.

Deemed “an astonishing debut… a dark, unsettling and nerve-chafing satire,” by the Seattle Times, Palahniuk’s novel grips readers from beginning to end. As Tyler’s Project Mayhem grows ever more aggressive and ambitious, his train of anarchy turns loose the rage of a deadened generation. Gear up for a fascinating foray into this relentless novel during our Books Unbound session with Professor Ingrasci, and check out the links below for additional reading. Sign up today!
