1 of 1

Tragic love affairs. Debilitating alcoholism. Peer pressure. It may sound like a contemporary novel, but The Morgesons was actually published nearly a century and a half ago. Elizabeth Stoddard’s first work of fiction recounts the life of Cassandra Morgeson, a headstrong woman making her way through the frequently stifling world of 1850s East Coast America. Guided by Professor Julia Stern of Northwestern University, this Books Unbound session promises to take participants along for an insightful foray into the conflicted and complicated psyches of The Morgesons’ protagonist.
