Click play to listen. Recorded on November 2, 2002.

Tim O'Brien, author of The Things They Carried (1990) and many other books, continues his examination of Vietnam and its aftermath in his latest novel July, July (2002). He discusses the challenge of crafting art and beauty out of war’s unspeakable horrors. O’Brien shares several stories from his new book and the influence and process behind their creation. Though much of his work is still drawn from writing about Vietnam, July, July includes stories set in more modern times but which O’Brien still considers “war stories.”
