This year marks the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking book Our Bodies, Ourselves. Judy Norsigian, executive director and a cofounder of the organization now known as Our Bodies Ourselves, coauthored Our Bodies, Ourselves: Menopause and Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth. In her current advocacy efforts, Norsigian seeks to help women navigate the intersections of technology and health to better understand controversies surrounding  genetics research, medications, fertility, and other areas that affect women’s health. She discusses the pros and cons of selected technological breakthroughs in the field of women’s health and how the complexities of our modern healthcare system sometimes mitigate the use of established best practices.

This annual lecture honors Festival supporter Doris Conant in recognition of a generous gift to the Chicago Humanities Festival by the Conant Family Foundation.
