  • ABOUT Dominic Missimi

    Dominic Missimi has served as executive director since he founded American Music Theatre Project at Northwestern University (AMTP) in 2005. He has received several Joseph Jefferson Award nominations for productions he directed at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre.. He has directed many regional opera companies, including Chicago Opera Theatre, Michigan Opera Theatre, Piedmont Opera, and Augusta Opera. Missimi, a Northwestern University alumnus, recently retired after 30 years on the faculty.

  • ABOUT Joshua Horvath

    Joshua Horvath is an award-winning sound designer/composer/music producer.  His credits include sound design for theaters including Goodman, Center Theatre Group, Lincoln Center Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Steppenwolf, Hartford Stage, Long Wharf, Court Theatre, Kansas City Rep, Milwaukee Rep, and Chicago Shakespeare.   He teaches sound design for theatre and film at Northwestern University and is an artistic associate at Lookingglass Theatre.

  • ABOUT Ryan Nelson

    Ryan T. Nelson is considered one of the most versatile conductors of his generation. An active conductor of wind ensembles, contemporary music and music theatre, Ryan’s work has been praised by contemporary composers like; John Adams, Oliver Knussen, Augusta Reed Thomas, and Eric Whitacre. Ryan received his B.A. in music education from Duquesne University, where he studied conducting. His master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees in conducting are from the University of North Texas.

Join the creative team from Northwestern University’s fall production of Rent—director Dominic Missimi, sound designer Joshua Horvath, and music director Ryan Nelson—for a journey through techniques and tools singers use to manipulate their natural voices. From performing unplugged to enhancing a song with electronic instruments and microphones, members of the student cast give the audience a glimpse into the technical magic behind creating an unforgettable performance.
