It really is about writing, which is important to note, because I’m not the person who should be here. I’m not academic.

In 2007, the Chicago Tribune awarded beloved children’s adventure novelist and three-time Newbery Honor winner Gary Paulsen its annual book prize for young adult fiction.  Paulsen’s speech accepting the award is an adventure in itself as the outdoorsman muses on the events that influenced his reading and writing life, from trapping in the Minnesota backwoods, to forging signatures to join the military, running away from home, selling papers in bars, racing sled dogs in the Iditarod, and just about everything else.
