Christian Smith on the Power of Religion

About the Event:

In 2015, Pew found that nearly a quarter of Americans described themselves as “religiously unaffiliated,” which added fuel to the flames of a long-standing debate around the death of religion. Despite this, Notre Dame professor Christian Smith still sees religion continuing well into the future. Smith, the author of Religion: What It Is, How It Works, and Why It Matters, will delve into the origins of religion, why people believe, and how religion continues to evolve in order to adapt to modern society. He’ll also discuss how, despite increasing secularization, religion remains a powerful force in both our public and private lives.
