Hyde Park Day

Join us for Hyde Park Day on November 9th where Chicago Humanities will continue to explore the movement theme with programs on politics and political movements, the rhythms of earth and nature, and sports and the human form.

Derek Black details a childhood manipulated by fear, their break from a community of hate, embracing antiracism, and coming out as transgender; Alison L. LaCroix enlightens us on the Interbellum Constitution; Sunil Amrith discusses migration as consequence of environmental harm; Jamaica Kincaid uncovers truths of colonial history that manifest in our gardens; popular choreographer Kyle Abraham provides a talk on dance; Paul Reitter explores communism as a political movement and its relation to his new translation of Karl Marx; Louis Moore covers the history of Black quarterbacks in the NFL, highlighting former Chicago Bear, Vince Evans; we present a special 30th Anniversary discussion with the stars and filmmakers of the great American documentary, Hoop Dreams; University of Chicago Department of Political Science Professor Adom Getachew examines movement with a lecture on Marcus Garvey's Pan-African movement; and Chicago Humanities favorite Patti Smith is joined by friend and legendary music photographer, Lynn Goldsmith.
