Pilsen Day
Named by Forbes as one of the coolest neighborhoods around the world, the Chicago neighborhood of Pilsen explodes with a vibrant history, rich arts and culture scene, dynamic nightlife, and amazing dining options. In Pilsen, you’re surrounded by art, colorful murals, and mosaics that pay homage to the neighborhood’s Latino roots. Join us for our September 29th events at Pilsen’s National Museum of Mexican Art, the Pilsen Arts and Community House, and Thalia Hall.
This full day of programming leans into our focus this fall on movement and migration. Take a journey with Chicago Humanities through Pilsen and experience arts engagements with our first Artist-in-Residence, Alberto Aguilar. Learn about the Chicano art protest movement and join a panel led by Geraldo Cadava on the forces that are shaping national and local immigration issues. Welcome star fashion designer and “Image Architect,” Law Roach as he returns to the Pilsen neighborhood where he opened his first boutique. The poet aja monet gives a performance at Thalia Hall. Finally, don’t miss the cars—join the discussion on lowrider culture and community and close the day with us at the Auto Portrait Spectacular with great music and molé!
