Julio Bermudez: Seeking a Spiritual City

Architect Julio Bermudez asks you to expand your definition of a sacred space beyond mosques, cathedrals, and other religious sanctuaries. Cities, he argues, can be designed to elicit contemplation and empathy, concern for the environment, or even a reduction in violence. To explore and define the potential of “spiritual urbanism,” Bermudez studies the intersection of architecture and neuroscience, and modern life and religious practice, making a passionate case for the creation of urban environments that foster spiritual and civic development.
