The Legal Fight for Transgender Rights
ACLU staff attorney and trans-activist Chase Strangio is at the epicenter of the legal push for LGBTQ rights. He worked for marriage equality before the Supreme Court, was lead counsel in a civil lawsuit against the Department of Defense brought by Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning, who came out as transgender while in prison, and is part of the team representing Gavin Grimm’s demand for bathroom access at his high school, a case considered a landmark in civil rights. Strangio will discuss the challenges and rewards of combining his legal acumen and activist training to further equality in the U.S. with award-winning diversity advocate Precious Davis.
