My Favorite Thing is Monsters
Chicago artist Emil Ferris grabbed the attention of literary and art circles with her debut graphic novel My Favorite Thing Is Monsters. Ferris crafts a compelling tale that combines a coming-of-age narrative in 1960s Chicago, Holocaust history, a murder mystery, and socio-political critique, told by a 10-year-old protagonist who imagines she is a wolf-girl. In her distinctive cross-hatch style, Ferris reproduces classic comic book covers and classic paintings. Damon Locks joins Ferris for a discussion of this daring, original, and very dark work.
